What is the difference between an instance and a profile?

Updated by Heather Jones

Instance

An instance is a virtual network that lets you communicate securely with other members of your organization.  Instances are customized with specific settings that fit your workflow.

Think of an instance as a company account. To access projects in Xactimate, you must belong to an instance. Each instance has users and projects that belong to it, and the number of users that can be added to an instance varies based on your subscription.

Profiles

Profiles are pre-determined estimating settings. These settings include various depreciation defaults, security groups, available vendors, and many other preferences, and they can be set by profile owners in Xactimate Admin.

When an independent adjuster works with multiple companies, they may have access to multiple profiles within their instance. This often includes one profile for each company they work with.
