Xactimate desktop updater
Overview
The XactimateUpdater utility is designed to perform an "in-place" update of Xactimate desktop (X1). This tool allows a user with administrative privileges to update their existing install to the latest version without uninstalling the current version of the application. This tool removes the installed program files without removing data or settings and then installs the latest version of the program.
XactimateUpdater can run with a simple graphical user interface (GUI). This document outlines how to use the tool with a graphical user interface.
Xactimate must be closed before running the updater. As with the install of Xactimate Desktop, this application requires administrator permissions. With each new release of Xactimate Desktop, a new version of the updater will be made available.
The latest production version of the updater can be downloaded from:

Running Xactimate Updater
Like most .exe files, opening XactimateDesktopUpdater.exe extracts the files and runs the updater. It first performs standard checks to determine if it can successfully update Xactimate.

If the preliminary checks pass, the Update button becomes enabled. If the button is not enabled, review the Update Log to determine what steps you must take before updating. Once you have addressed any issues, close the updater and run it again. The most common reasons the update cannot run are as follows:
- Xactimate is running; close Xactimate and run the updater again.
- A newer version of Xactimate is already installed. The available version must be the same or newer than the base and current versions of Xactimate. If a newer version is installed, you may not need to run the updater, or you may need to obtain a more recent version of the updater.
- The current user does not have administrator rights; the user must have administrator rights in order for the updater to remove the old version and install the new version of Xactimate
When the checks all succeed and you are ready to proceed, select the Update button. The Update Log updates with each step it goes through. The final step is to install the new version. At that point, the normal install window opens. Follow the prompts as you would with a new install. The install may take several minutes.
When the install finishes, launch Xactimate. Depending on your previous version, you may see additional update windows, which may take a few minutes. Once the install is complete, return to Xactimate Updater and close it.

If any errors occur during the process, information about those errors appears in the Update Log. You can find additional logs in %temp%\XactimateUpdater.
