What file types can Xactimate desktop import?

Acceptable file types vary depending on the purpose for the file. Refer to the following to know which file types are acceptable for each situation:

Files outside of a specific project

The following options are available from the Tools page, which is accessed from the main Xactimate navigation menu (outside a project). 

Project files

Note: Go to Import .esx project files from your computer to Xactimate desktop for a detailed explanation of how to import project files. 

Project files are saved projects you can import into your Xactimate, allowing you to treat them like any other project you created.

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Import in the Data Transfer section.
  2. Select the Location folder icon.

File types:

  • Folders only (the folder that contains the project file)

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Import.
  2. Select Select Data.

File types:

  • .esx
  • .chx

Template documents

Templates are custom documents, letters, and reports that use data from an estimate. These appear with the reports within the estimate.

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Scroll down to the Template Documents section on the Tools page.
  2. Select Import.

File types:

  • .docx
  • .dotx
  • .docm
  • .dotm
  • .doc
  • .dot
  • .xlsx
  • .xlsm
  • .xltx
  • .xltm
  • .xls
  • .xlt
  • .pdf

Files for a specific project

The following options are available from within a project.

Images

Images added to a project provide additional reference for reviewers.

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Photos.
  2. Select Load Images.

File types:

  • .jpg
  • .jpeg
  • .png
  • .heic
  • .emf
  • .tif
  • .tiff

Sketch

Underlays

Underlays allow you to use reference images as you create your sketch.

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Estimate.
  2. Select Sketch.
  3. Select the Options tab at the top of the page.
  4. Select Import.
  5. Select Import Underlay Image.

File types:

  • .jpg
  • .jpeg
  • .bmp
  • .png
  • .gif
Sketch templates

Sketch templates are ready-made sketches for specific situations. You can use these to more quickly create complex sketches.

This list of file types applies to files imported by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Estimate.
  2. Select Sketch.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Select Import.
  5. Select Download Sketch Templates.

Once you have downloaded the template, you must then import them by taking the following steps:

  1. Select Estimate.
  2. Select Sketch.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Select Load Template.
  5. Select Import.

File types:

  • .skx

Line item attachments

Sounds

Sounds added to line items can help give clarity to the items or allow for voice notations.

  1. Double-click the note field of a line item.
  2. Select Sound from dropdown menu.
  3. Select Load.
  • .wav
  • .mp3
  • .m4a
  • .wma
Documents

Documents added to line items can help give clarity to the items.

  1. Double-click the note field of a line item.  
  2. Select Document from the dropdown menu.  
  3. Select Load. 
  • .pdf
  • .docx

Reports

Template files

Report macros

Report Macros are macros that automatically create each of the reports included as well as any files added in the Add Macro window. When you export or preview the macro, it exports or previews all the included files.

  1. Select Documents.
  2. Select Reports.
  3. Select Report Macros.
  4. Select Add.
  5. Select Add file.
