Use a DISTO measuring device

Updated by Heather Jones

According to their website, "Leica DISTOs combine convenient, easy-to-use laser measurement with certified range and accuracy." You can use a DISTO measuring device with Xactimate mobile.

To use DISTO, your mobile device requires Bluetooth 4.0 and a supported DISTO device. Supported DISTO devices: E7100i; E7500i.

Sync your devices

  1. Activate Bluetooth on your mobile device.
  2. Open your project in Xactimate mobile and go to Sketch.
  3. Turn on your Leica DISTO measuring device. When a DISTO device is detected, a DISTO icon appears in the upper-right corner of Sketch.
  4. Tap the DISTO icon. A list of detected DISTO devices is displayed.
  5. Tap your DISTO device in the list to sync.

Adjust wall length with DISTO

To adjust wall length with your DISTO device, do the following:

  1.  In Sketch, tap the wall you want to adjust.
  2. Tap the laser icon at the base of the screen. (Note: If you’re adjusting the wall length without a DISTO device, tap the ruler icon.)
  3. Tap the end of the wall you want to adjust.
  4. Use your DISTO device to measure the new wall length. The wall in Sketch adjusts automatically. After adjusting the wall length, a preview of possible wall movements is shown with red and blue dotted lines.
  5. Tap the red or blue circle to confirm your preferred adjustment. Tapping the red circle changes the vertex, while tapping the blue circle squares the adjustment with a parallel wall.

After confirming your adjustment, the room takes on its new dimensions in Sketch.

You can also adjust the measurements manually by sliding the measurement picker up or down. Slide the measurement toggle left or right to adjust interior or exterior walls.

Use SketchCam with DISTO

You can use DISTO with SketchCam to make capturing the dimensions of a room even easier. Rather than manually approximating the room in Sketch and then using DISTO to refine, use SketchCam to create your digital blueprint first:

  1. Open your project in Xactimate mobile and go to Sketch.
  2. On the top right of Sketch, tap. The room list appears.
  3. Tap SketchCam.
  4. Use SketchCam to mark the corners of the room. (Use the corner guides to help you mark obscured or inaccessible corners.)
  5. Tap the check mark to accept your new SketchCam blueprint.
  6. In Sketch, tap the wall you want to adjust.
  7. Tap the laser icon at the base of the screen.
  8. Tap the end of the wall you want to adjust.
