Use item scenarios

Updated 1 year ago by Bethany W.

With the Item Scenario tool, you can create temporary changes to an estimate that allow you to view different scenarios for upgrading, downgrading, replacing, or excluding items.

For instance, the policyholder may want to know the additional cost of upgrading the living room carpet to hardwood flooring. In this case, you can create a scenario in which you replaced the item FCC AV (carpet) with the upgraded item FCW AV (hardwood flooring). You can view and print an estimate report that shows the cost for the standard carpet compared to the upgraded hardwood flooring.

Scenario items can be viewed on the report and excluded from the final estimate, or they can be easily added and made permanent.

Add an excluded item to a scenario

When you exclude an item from an estimate with the Item Scenario tool, the item information is included in the estimate, but the cost of the item is excluded from the total cost of the estimate.  This scenario might be used when the policyholder is paying for the replacement item, or when certain items are not covered in the policy.

  1. In the estimate, click the Project tab, and select Options.
  2. In the View group, select the Show Excluded Items check box.
  3. Click the Estimate Items tab, and right-click an item.
  4. Click Item Edit Options, and select Item Scenario. The Item Scenario dialog box opens.
  5. Select the Excluded Item check box, and click OK.

Add an upgrade item to a scenario

When you add an upgrade item to a scenario, the item information and cost are included in the estimate.

  1. Click the Estimate Items tab, and right-click an item.
  2. Click Item Edit Options, and select Item Scenario. The Item Scenario dialog box opens.
  3. Select the Upgrade (add item) check box, and click OK.
  4. If you only want to view the cost difference for the item on an estimate report, select the Report Time Only check box.
  5. If you want to add the item as an upgrade, select the Permanent & Reports check box.
  6. In the Scenario Name box, type a name for the scenario.
  7. If you have already created a scenario for the estimate, and want to add the upgrade to that scenario, click the arrow to select it.

  8. Click OK. The item remains active with a note indicating that it is an upgrade.
